21st IfGB Spirits and Distillery Forum
In the past few days, the largest German-language specialist conference for the spirits industry – the IfGB Spirits and Distillery Forum – took place in Bamberg at the invitation of the malting company Weyermann®.
The Hegelsaal of the concert and congress hall served as the conference location for the specialist event. There the participants heard lectures on the topics “Challenges and prospects for continental whisky”, „Framework conditions for spirits production and marketing“, “Different dimensions of whisky” and “Innovation, sustainability and inspection”.
Our Weyermann® distillery manager, Philipp Schwarz, and our Weyermann® team leader direct customers and food, Ulrich Ferstl, provided a deeper insight into the use of specialty malts in the distillery. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jens Voigt, a long-time companion and friend of the Weyermann® management, spoke about the influence of specialty malts on the aroma profile of whisky new-makes.
At the invitation of our family malting company the official welcome evening took place at the Weyermann® headquarters on Brennerstrasse. All participants first gathered in the festively decorated Weyermann® Visitors Center before, accompanied by our in-house Weyermann® experts, they took a tour of our company and looked behind the scenes of our specialty malt, beer, spirits and baked goods production.
After Dr. Josef Fontaine, Managing Director of VLB Berlin, Dr. Markus Grumann, Managing Director miho Inspektionssysteme, and our bosses Sabine Weyermann and Thomas Kraus-Weyermann, officially opened the evening with their greetings, and the happy networking began with a Franconian buffet and specialties from the Weyermann® brewery and distillery.
We are happy that we were able to host the 21st IfGB Spirits and Distillery Forum in our beautiful world heritage city of Bamberg and thank everyone involved for the wonderful cooperation. Many thanks to all participants for the lively exchange!
