Status update: Transformation concept at the Weyermann® location in Clingen, Thuringia

With the major goals of resource conservation, sustainability and CO2 neutrality, we are working on a groundbreaking transformation concept at the Weyermann® Clingen location in cooperation with our partner company, the Institute for Energy Technology (IfE GmbH).

Our Partner: IfE GmbH
The IfE GmbH, based at the East Bavarian Technical University in Amberg-Weiden, actively supports companies in the energy transition process. Under the direction of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Markus Brautsch, a team of over 70 engineers and scientists works together on energy consulting, project support and implementation of sustainable energy systems.

Project developments since October 2023
Since October 2023 we have been in close contact with the IfE group. In our monthly Jour-Fix meetings, we analyzed our Clingen Location in detail and identified the individual consumption points based on the data processed. This analysis is the foundation for the consideration and design of alternative energy sources. In our modern malting facility in Clingen, the kiln was identified as the main energy consumer and source of emissions.

Solutions and Presentation
On August 6th, 2024 we  presented the outcomes of our investigations at our Weyermann® Visitors Center. The Weyermann® and IfE GmbH team presented the management with innovative and future-oriented solutions to make the production of Weyermann® specialty malts even more energy-efficient and sustainable. The ongoing projects at the Bamberg location were particularly impressive, as they already use energy recovery systems in all production areas, thus ensuring resource-saving production.

Outlook
With the new ideas and findings, we continue to work closely with the IfE GmbH in order to promptly achieve our management’s goal of offering Weyermann® products that are being produced as climate-neutral as possible. We look forward to implementing the individual measures and projects in Clingen and other locations and thus taking an important step towards a clean future.
