Weyermann® provides malt for Senatsbock (traditional Hamburg bock beer)
We love reviving traditions – all the better that we were able to contribute our malt to the traditional Hamburg Senatsbock beer tapping!
The tradition of the Hamburg Senatsbock goes back to the 1950s. At that time, five breweries joined forces to brew a bock beer together and subsequently ring in Hamburg’s 5th season – the bock beer season – at the beginning of the new year. A wave of mergers in the 1960s shook up the Hamburg brewery landscape, with the result that competition between breweries increased and the production of the Senatsbock was eventually shut down.
At the end of 2013, the love for Hamburg, the craft of brewing and the valued tradition brought the five breweries Block Bräu, Brauhaus Joh. Albrecht, Gröninger private brewery, Kehrwieder Kreativbrauerei and Ratsherrn together. After intensive planning and careful recipe development, the Hamburg Senatsbock beer tapping was revived for the first time in 2015!
In the meantime, four other breweries have joined this project..
After the Senatsbock beer tapping had only taken place virtually due to the pandemic in recent years, this year it was finally possible to celebrate the beautiful tradition live and in color with like-minded people again.
The festive tapping took place in the basement of the Parlament restaurant last weekend. A total of eight different interpretations of the Senatsbock were presented – all brewed with our first-class Weyermann® malts from Bamberg!
Our Weyermann® customer consultant Jörn Petersen was on-site as red and yellow ambassador and shared these beautiful photos from the event with us!
We are glad that we were able to contribute our malts to this traditional Senatbock and send best regards to the Hanseatic city!
