Weyermann® Women’s Brewing Day 2024
It’s our favorite event in March: the Weyermann® Women’s Brewing Day on International Women’s Day!
Traditionally, on International Women’s Day, we organize a brewing event just for the ladies from the Weyermann® team. Under the expert guidance of our Weyermann® master brewer Constantin Förtner and his team, they brew a very special beer creation, the proceeds from which always go to the women‘s shelter in Bamberg.
Last Friday it was finally that time again and numerous employees from various departments of our family malthouse came together for the brewing day at the Weyermann® brew manufacture.
After a short introduction to the planned agenda, Constantin Förtner first presented the recipe for the intended brew and explained the selection of the individual ingredients.
Thus we can look forward to a bottom-fermented, light beer made from first-class brewing raw materials. This includes a fine selection of Weyermann® malts such as Weyermann® Carapils® and Carahell®, exquisite hop varieties (Aurora and Calista) and selected dry yeasts from Fermentis®.
The special brewing creation is always complemented by a special ingredient. This time, the juice from organic pomegranate as well as the juice and zests from organic blood oranges from Italy give the beverage its colorful touch as well as a fruity, light summery note.
Divided into several groups, the women eventually went to work. With combined Weyermann® women power the ladies lent a helping hand at all workstations – when it came to putting the malt in the mash tun, weighing and crushing the malt or squeezing and the fruits.
Part of the brewing day also involves assisting our Weyermann® craft baker Friedrich Rauh in his bakery to create suitable snacks for the day. Traditionally, the special ingredient of the brew is always used. This time, the ladies conjured up delicious shortcrust biscuits with the juice and zests of the organic blood oranges.
The icing on the cake was the traditional handing over of the check for the sales proceeds from the previous year’s beer creation “Cherri Cherri Lady” with a total amount of 2500.00 euros, which will benefit the local projects of the Bamberg women’s shelter.
The freshly brewed brew will now be stored in the fermentation cellar of the Weyermann® brew manufacture. After its completion, the alcoholic malt beverage will be available in a limited edition at the Weyermann® shop Living & Drinking from mid-May.
As always, the name of this year’s “women’s beer” will be announced on the release date in May. Until then, our committee has the task of choosing the winner from the many name ideas submitted by the employees.
