Women’s Brewing Day 2024: Release and tasting of the ‘Orange Rockt’ beer creation

On July 30, 2024, the presentation and tasting of this year’s beer creation ‘Orange Rockt’ took place in the summery decorated ambience of the Weyermann® Guest Center on the occasion of Women’s Brewing Day 2024 in cooperation with the Bamberg Women’s House.

On behalf of Sabine and Franziska Weyermann, Silke Thomas, Head of Marketing, and Hannah Schmid, Press Officer, welcomed 14 dedicated Weyermann® women from various departments as well as six representatives of the Bamberg Women’s House. Among them were Simone Stroppel, Bettina Hainke, Sonja Pecher, Erika Reißig, Ingeborg Matschl and Sabine Stiegelschmitt. This special gathering marked the peak of a project that began on International Women’s Day, March 8, 2024.

Themed “By women for women”, the Weyermann® employees brewed a unique beer creation together with the representatives of the Bamberg Women’s Shelter under the expert guidance of master brewer Constantin Förtner. This annual event aims to promote creativity and skill as well as supporting a good cause: All proceeds from sales go to the Bamberg Women’s House.

The reveal of the beer name ‘Orange Rockt’ was particularly exciting: on the brewing day, all employees were asked to submit name ideas for the beer mix. This creative word creation came from Monika Schmitt, Deputy Head of Export at Weyermann® Malz. She was rewarded for her creativity with a 6-pack of the limited edition brew.

The highlight of the event was undoubtedly the ceremonial handover to the representatives of the Bamberg Women’s House, followed by the joint tasting led by Mr. Förtner.

The wonderful result was ‘Orange Rockt’, a pale lager beer with an exquisite composition. Master brewer Förtner explained the carefully selected ingredients:

– Weyermann® specialty malts:

o Weyermann® Premium Pilsner Malt extra pale

o Weyermann® CARAPILS®/CARAFOAM®

o Weyermann® CARAHELL®

o Weyermann® sour malt

– Hop varieties: Aurora and Calista

– Selected dry yeast from Fermentis®

– Juice from organic pomegranates

– Juice and zest from organic Italian blood oranges

Attendees were guided through a sensory journey that analyzed the color and taste of the beer. The combination of high-quality ingredients gives the 4.5% vol. light beer its characteristic color as well as a slightly bittersweet, fruity and summery note. In addition to the spicy and herbal notes, the finish is pleasantly bitter and dry. The aroma of Mediterranean fruit is present from start to finish and harmonizes excellently with the light malt and hop notes. In short, ‘Orange Rockt’ is the brewer’s answer to an Italian aperitivo.

The ladies from the Weyermann® Guest Center team were the ones to impress with the preparation and presentation of the selected salty and sweet food parings. According to the master brewer’s recommendation, these should be enjoyed in the same breath as the beer. Artfully wrapped San Daniele ham around grissini, resembling savory lollipops, goat’s cream cheese on baguette with pomegranate seeds, lamb’s lettuce with filleted oranges, malt cake with strawberry cream and the finest chocolate and pralines rounded off the taste experience perfectly.  Many thanks to the Weyermann Guest Center team for their great work and dedication.

The Women’s Brewing Day at Weyermann® is more than just a brewing day – it is a celebration of creativity, cohesion and social commitment. With ‘Orange Rocks’, the women have created an exceptional beer while making a valuable contribution to their community.

We look forward to continuing the tradition of Women’s Brewing Day at Weyermann® in the years to come and continuing to contribute to good causes – true to the motto: “By women for women”.
